Inexpensive Blinder Lights for your Stage

09/01/2009

One way to truly engage an audience during either a DJ set or a live bands performance is to include them in your performance with Blinder lights. Blinder is just a slang term for lights pointed at the audience designed to illuminate PinspotLEDthem during parts of songs where they are participating. It is a great way to get them on the same level as the performer and therefore make them feel as important to the show as they really are. The American DJ Pinspot LED Lighting Effect is a great addition to any lighting setup no matter how large or small. Priced at only $49.95, the Pinspot LED can be connected to a simple chase controller or a dimmer with DMX in to control its off and on timing. Another thing they can be used for that is completely unrelated to music or performance is in art galleries or even storefronts to showcase specials or limited time deals. They have incredibly bright output but very low heat and energy consumption, making them perfect for any application where a tight beam of white light is needed. The Pinspot LED comes with a standard 12 degree lens already attached. Included in the box is an optional 6 degree lens. To switch lenses simply remove the retainer ring in front of the current lens, carefully remove the lens, and attach the 6 degree lens. Replace the retainer ring and the switch is complete. Inexpensive, versatile and extremely cool, check it out for your application, it’ll work great!

Get the Audience’s Attention with Lighting

07/06/2009

Most musicians are a lot like me, always wanting the music to capture your audience. Well, the sad truth is that the attention span of live music audiences is getting shorter and shorter, there is no denying that. Whatamdjmegastrobe do you do to keep your audience captivated, add a little light to your stage show! One light in particular, can actually add a lot of flare to your stage presence and doesn’t really need to be used a whole lot. The American DJ Mega Flash DMX Strobe Light can definitely turn some heads and help keep your audience focused and into your performance. This bad boy features 2 DMX channels for speed and dimming plus has a speed and dimmer control knob on rear of unit. It is capable of dimming from 0-100% and sound active control with built-in microphone. This is not your brother’s egg strobe, no siree. It is designed to illuminate your audience as well as your band and not cause any seizures, although it may still if activated and sped way up. Anyway, check it out for yourself and see the difference a little lighting can make on your audience.

Light up the night without burning yourself or your budget

04/16/2009

In a previous post or two I have discussed the importance of lighting in a performance to not only add another entertainment element but to also illuminate the band in a way to make everybody visible to everybody else. Whew, p64ledthat was a mouthful. But, I stick by my thought that lighting is very important. The one thing that has always turned me off a little about lighting is the heat generated. Being a drummer, I typically sit on a riser near the back of the stage and am therefore even closer to the light cans and on some occasions close enough to start sweating before even starting to perform. That is not a good thing since I am an active drummer as it is, I’ll be completely dehydrated by the middle of our set. The solution that I have come up with is to use the American DJ P64 LED Par Can Stage Light. Not only do they remedy the heat issue but no longer will you have to change gels since every P64LED can produce nearly endless colors thanks to its RGB color mixing which ultimately combines different intensities of Red, Blue and Green to create hundreds of colors with smooth transitions. One thing that really stands out to me is the ultra-low power consumption. I like to think of these lights as a triple threat; cool, colorful and cheap to power. Check them out for your rig!

Control Your Light Show With Your Laptop

03/13/2009

In the live sector of the music business, an often unexplored area is lighting. I’ve written a post or two about the importance of lighting in a live show and I maintain my standpoint. The one problem that I see is the added gear dmx_screen_smlneeded.  However, you can slim down the required controller a lot by simply using the PCDJ DMX Lighting Control Hardware and Software Package with your laptop. Now, you can control all aspect of your lighting rig within the software that is included in the package. A simple USB connection to your computer gets you up and running for the most straight-forward control of your lighting rig. You can now set-up and perform amazing light sequences with moving lights, par cans, lasers, hazers, media servers, and more. With PCDJ, you can DJ, VJ, and LJ (Light Jockey) at the same time! Yeah, that line came off the PCDJ site. Check it out on American Musical Supply today!
