Weekend Plans and using New Gear

11/21/2009

Happy Friday everybody, it’s a good weekend indeed as I have a DJ gig tomorrow evening for a wedding reception. I actually have a little custom work that I need to do in order to mount my American DJ M500L Mirror Ball Kit to the 2 inch truss which will hold all the other lights. As you are probably aware, Mirror Balls are absolute necessities for any good dance party so I have made it a priority to build a mount using a steel mounting bracket from an old Par can. Not only am I slammed to make a mount for my disco ball, I also have to go through the playlist I received from the groom to make sure I have everything they want. It’s going to be a long night tonight and a fun one tomorrow. That’s all I have for today, have a great weekend folks!

Control and be Controlled by Ableton

10/09/2009

The title to this entry sounds a bit weird when I read it aloud to myself here but I shall not change it, ha ha! Ok, yeah, novationlaunchpadI’m in a freaky mood today. It’s Friday, I feel great and some friends are here from out of town so I’ll get to have a jam session later tonight and tomorrow, yeehaw. I had a migraine last night that I thought would make my head explode but I survived it, whew. Anyway, back to the post title. What I am referring to with the strange title is the new Novation Launchpad Controller for Ableton Live. This thing is the ultimate controller for Ableton Live since it was designed in conjunction with Ableton. These guys have created a great and very unique way of controlling this killer software. Here is a video to better show you the sweet ways in which this controller can be used with Ableton Live. Have a great weekend everybody and thanks for stopping by GearBlog.org!

Simplify your DJ setup further by eliminating the need for a computer

08/25/2009

In some ways the title of this post may terrify some and other will likely not bother reading this because they simply could not imagine providing any DJ services without a laptop. The truth is that there are already a few ways to completely eliminate the need for a computer but don’t make it easy and affordable. However, the Numark DDS DJ MP3 Media Player is both affordable and easy to use thanks to itnumarkddss ingenious design and over idea. DDS is a rack-mountable multimedia controller which allows easy connectivity of hard drives, CD/DVD drives, thumb drives, iPods, and card readers. You can now easily access any track in your library or any connected device because DDS gives you fast track access with text search using the click knob or the included keyboard. Basically, DDS takes the place of your computer and allows you to lose none of the functionality. Check it out for yourself, you will not be disappointed.

Starting a DJ Company

08/03/2009

Happy Monday everybody! I had a great weekend full of fun, excitement and some work. My father in-law and I built a aquariumstandstand for my 55 gallon aquarium and did a great job considering we went into it with only dimensions of the tank itself. I’m very happy with the result so far. Now I just need to figure out a door and then get it to my house to apply the black poly-stain. Here is a picture of the stand.

In other news, I may be starting to do some DJ gigs provided I can get the DJ equipment I need along with a laptop. The reason I’m considering this is because it is good money if you establish djconsolermxtopyourself as a reputable entertainer plus then I’ll be able to make more money on the weekend when I’m not playing with the band or doing live sound gigs for other bands, I might as well make some more cash. The DJ interface I’m thinking of using is the Hercules DJ Console RMX Pro Control Surface with Audio Interface. The reason for my gear choice is simply ease of use. I’ve played with this unit at NAMM in 2008 and was very impressed with how easy it was to use not to mention the unit has excellent inputs and outputs. You can connect 2 more cd players or vinyl turntables to the unit too and it has 1/4 inch outputs so this is perfect for me as well as easy to use and fairly inexpensive. That’s all I have for you today, thanks for reading!

Monitor Your Beats like the Doctor Intended

07/27/2009

when I say Doctor, I mean “the” doctor, as in Dr. Dre. Yes, there is a new set of headphones designed to isolate outside, ambient sound to provide you with the most accurate mix. Powered by a pair of standard monsterbeatsAAA batteries, Beats are great for use on planes, trains and automobiles. The ultra-soft, around-the-ear cushions help reduce outside noise naturally and provide breathable comfort so that you feel the music, not the headphones. A huge bonus is the fact that two removable cables are provided, one regular cable, and one with a microphone/control button for use with iPhones and other smart phones. The cables use Monster’s Quadripole construction to reduce signal loss and have gold-plated 3.5mm connectors for wide compatibility. Plus, a built-in mute button allows you to hear the outside world without having to remove the headphones. Special thanks to the hip-hop community for this one!
