As I’m sure you are aware, many PA speaker manufacturers load their cabinets with generic speakers to keep their cost low. This is good for us as consumers because it makes the speaker cabinets we need for our jobs more affordable so we can get out there and make money doing what we do, live sound. Have you ever though about upgrading your cabinets
to higher quality components? If you are anything like me, you have. Currently, I have a pair of Yamaha BR15 speakers which are typically used as main speakers but I have also built some cradles for them so that they may be used as monitors as well. I’ve always been pleased with their sound as monitor speakers but they definitely left a bit to be desired in terms of using them as main speakers. What did I do? I picked up a pair of Eminence Kappa Pro 15LF2 Replacement PA Speakers with the intention of replacing the stock woofers with these Kappa Pros. The Kappa Pro 15LF2 handles a total of 600 watts alone which expands the BR15 cabinet capacity nicely and easily blows the pants off the stock woofer. The Kappa Pro has a 3 inch polyamide-imide coated two-layer 27 gauge aluminum voice coil, kapton coil former, 120 oz. ferrite magnet, vented core, paper cone with cloth edge, and a paper dust cap so you get accurate sound reproduction and tons of punch. This is an ideal speaker for portable high power P.A. and club music systems. I have yet to actually install them as I just received the drivers today but I’m sure the BR15s are going to knock my socks off after the switch. Have a great weekend everybody and thanks for checking out GearBlog.org.
