This package provides one Samson Q-Kick microphone, one Samson Q-Snare mic, three Q-toms, two Samson C01 large diaphragm condensers for use as overheads and a single C02H which can be used for hi-hat, ride or anything in between. You can even use it on electric guitar for all I care. The point is you can get all these great microphones, rim mounts for the Q-tom and Q-snare mics and stand compatible clips for the rest for only $349.98 or 3 Easy Payments of $116.66.

That is definitely worth sharing with you guys! Click the above link for more information on the microphones and see if this package is right for you.

Avalon VT737SP Aniversary Edition

10/28/2008

We all know what a phenomenal unit the VT737SP is and how many uses we can find for it, tons. Is it possible to make one of the most sought after channel strips even better? The simple answer…of course it is. Within a complex electrical circuit, there are always variables to change to modify the achievable sound of said unit. That is precisely what Avalon has done with their iconic VT737…they have made a mutant of sorts. Ladies and Gentleman, may I present the Avalon VT737SP Black and Blue 10th Anniversary Class A Microphone Processor! Some marked feature changes are quite obvious such as the black exterior of the entire unit. This thing looks very sleek! Not that the original wasn’t sleek looking but this looks great. Another difference is the LED color. The original had orange/gold colored LED lights and this 10th anniversary edition has futuristic looking blue LEDs instead. I recommend you get one of these quickly people, I have a feeling they are going to be gone very quickly. This limited edition item will be available at American Musical Supply soon so keep checking and I will activate the link once we have them on the website.

Field Recording of Quality Sound

10/24/2008

Musicians use and have fun with consumer-grade video cameras for buzz marketing and connecting with fans on YouTube and Myspace. For us “not so professional” camera people, our sound quality suffers immensely. I mean, the built-in microphones on many consumer grade video cameras are quite poor while the video is surprisingly quite good. It’s time for that to change. Allow me to introduce the Audio Technica AT8022 X/Y Stereo Microphone. Finally, a mic that is priced right for everybody at $399.00 or 3 Easy Payments of $133.00 to really make your videos stand out. Let’s look at some of the features, shall we?

Its coincident capsule configuration produces an X/Y stereo image in a small housing. The microphone is supplied with two cables for use with either pro or consumer gear. It also has switchable low-frequency roll-off and the convenience of battery or phantom power!

Recording a Song

10/24/2008

I’ve preciously covered the steps I take in the recording process and recently tried things a little bit differently. Unfortunately, I found out the hard way not to deviate from what works. I recorded the drums to a song I had written some time ago but never tracked and when I did that, I failed to play all the parts the way I had originally written the song. I found this out when I went to record the lead guitar parts and got cut off by myself in the recording. That is frustrating. How do you fix this? There really is but one way to fix it. Start All Over! YIKES.

It’s painful but true. There is a positive side to this though; I realized that my previously recorded guitar parts (I recorded them with my Digitech RP350 which is nearly identical to the Digitech RPX400 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal) clipped in a few spots. For the final guitar tracks, I will be recording my guitar played through my Peavey Prowler 45 watt all-tube combo guitar amp. I did some tracks last night and compared the two, night and day, literally. The tube sound is bounds beyond the tone of the RP350 for a semi-professional recording. I’ve decided to only use the RP350 for silent practice, live performance use or demo track recording. There you go, that is my update for you. I’ll try to make some more progress on this tune over the weekend but can’t make any promises since my wife is pregnant and due to deliver very soon, could be any day. Wahoo, I’m going to be a daddy! Anyway, I hope this helps somebody.
